The peptide portion consists of three amino acids: glycine, histidine and lysine. Copper(II) coordinates through the imidazole nitrogen of histidine, the alpha-amino group of glycine and a deprotonated amide nitrogen of the backbone, producing a roughly square-planar geometry. This arrangement gives the complex its characteristic blue-to-violet colour and helps it resist dissociation in water. Reported stability constants are high, although values differ between studies because of differences in ionic strength and measurement method.
The International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients lists the substance as copper tripeptide-1, the name that appears on most topical product labels. Related designations include copper peptide and GHK-Cu, and the hyphenated form is common in research literature. In cosmetics the material is regulated as an ingredient rather than as a drug, so products may reach the market without evidence of the effects claimed for them. Whether those effects are clinically meaningful is an open question, since most supportive data come from laboratory work and small trials.
Identity and purity are assessed mainly by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection, often paired with mass spectrometry to confirm the expected mass. Copper content is measured separately by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry or atomic absorption spectroscopy, because the peptide assay alone does not establish the metal-to-peptide ratio. Visible spectroscopy provides a rapid check on complex integrity through the absorption band in the visible region. Agreement between the peptide assay and the copper assay is the practical test of whether a sample is the intended complex rather than a mixture.
Aqueous solutions of GHK-Cu are less stable than the dry powder. The peptide backbone is vulnerable to hydrolysis at extreme pH, and copper can be stripped from the complex by strong chelating agents such as EDTA or citrate. Oxidising agents and high concentrations of ascorbic acid can reduce copper(II) and change the complex, which is one reason formulators often keep such ingredients in separate phases. How quickly these changes occur under real storage conditions depends on pH, buffer, temperature and packaging, and quantitative data on the subject are limited.

Published studies describe the complex in several research contexts, including collagen synthesis, antioxidant behaviour, and wound repair models. Much of this work is conducted in cultured cells or in small animal systems, and the findings are frequently cited in reviews of copper peptides. Direct clinical evidence in humans is comparatively limited, and reported outcomes vary with formulation and study design. Whether free chain or metal-bound form was used is not always stated, a point that complicates comparison between reports.
GHK-Cu is a coordination complex formed between the peptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine and a copper(II) ion. The unbound chain, abbreviated GHK, consists of three amino acids and occurs naturally in human plasma, saliva, and urine. Binding of the metal is mediated mainly by the imidazole nitrogen of the histidine residue together with backbone amides, producing a stable chelate. Ingredient nomenclature often lists the same substance as copper tripeptide-1. Its charge and solubility behaviour differ from those of the metal-free chain.
Analytical verification commonly relies on high-performance liquid chromatography for purity assessment and mass spectrometry for identity confirmation. Spectroscopic methods such as UV-visible absorption and electron paramagnetic resonance can probe the metal centre itself, since the d9 configuration of copper(II) produces characteristic signals. Elemental analysis or plasma-based techniques quantify copper content. Because each method reports a different aspect of the same sample, purity figures are most meaningful when the technique and its detection wavelength are stated alongside the value.
Stability of the complex in solution depends on pH, temperature, and the presence of competing ligands. It is generally described as more resistant to breakdown than the metal-free chain, since coordination reduces susceptibility to enzymatic attack. Oxidation and hydrolysis can nevertheless proceed over time in aqueous media. Storage guidance in laboratory settings commonly involves refrigeration, protection from light, and avoidance of strongly alkaline conditions. Published data on long-term behaviour vary considerably and depend on the specific matrix.
Handling practices for the solid material emphasise low temperature and dryness. The lyophilised or powdered form is typically kept at refrigerator or freezer temperatures together with a desiccant. Working solutions are often prepared fresh, because repeated freeze-thaw cycles and extended storage may alter the complex. Glass or inert plastic containers are preferred over materials that could leach metal ions into the preparation. Such practices follow general peptide conventions rather than substance-specific regulations.
Copper(II) binds the peptide through four nitrogen donors: the terminal amino group, the imidazole nitrogen of histidine, and two deprotonated amide nitrogens of the peptide backbone. This tetradentate arrangement gives a roughly square-planar geometry, the thermodynamically favoured form near neutral pH. Because the amide nitrogens must lose a proton before they can coordinate, complex formation is strongly pH-dependent, and the fully coordinated species dominates only above mildly acidic conditions. Electronic transitions within the copper d orbital set produce the characteristic blue to violet colour in aqueous solution.
Endogenous GHK occurs in blood plasma, saliva, and urine, and reported plasma concentrations decline with age in several studies. Researchers have proposed that the peptide acts as a copper carrier that delivers the metal to cells and to sites of injury. That transport role is a hypothesis supported by binding measurements and tissue-distribution data rather than a settled mechanism, and the peptide is generally described as a minor contributor to total plasma copper transport. Values reported in wound fluid and certain tissue extracts are higher than in circulating plasma.
The sequence carries three residues in the order glycine, histidine, lysine, which places a small, flexible chain around a single metal centre. Compared with larger copper-binding proteins, the complex is compact and its coordination chemistry can be reproduced with synthetic peptide in a laboratory. Published structural work agrees on the nitrogen donor set but differs in the exact geometry assigned under some conditions, so the arrangement is best treated as well characterised in outline rather than fixed in every detail.
Determining the location in space of a given blip was a complex multi-step process. First the operator would select a set of receiver antennas using the motorized switch, feeding signals to the receiver system. The antennas were connected together in pairs, forming two directional antennas, sensitive primarily along the X and Y axes respectively, Y being the line of shoot. The operator would then "swing the gonio", or "hunt", back and forth until the selected blip reached its minimum deflection on this display (or maximum, at 90 degrees off). The operator would measure the distance against the scale, and then tell the plotter the range and bearing of the selected target. The operator would then select a different blip on the display and repeat the process. For targets at different altitudes, the operator might have to try different antennas to maximize the signal. On the receipt of a set of polar coordinates from the radar operator, the plotter's task was to convert these to X and Y locations on a map. They were provided with large maps of their operational area printed on lightweight paper so they could be stored for future reference. A rotating straightedge with the centrepoint at the radar's location on the map was fixed on top, so when the operator called an angle the plotter would rotate the straightedge to that angle, look along it to pick off the range, and plot a point. The range called from the operator is the line-of-sight range, or slant range, not the over-ground distance from the station.
== Overview == Adjuvants in immunology are often used to modify or augment the effects of a vaccine by stimulating the immune system to respond to the vaccine more vigorously, and thus providing increased immunity to a particular disease. Adjuvants accomplish this task by mimicking specific sets of evolutionarily conserved molecules, so called pathogen-associated molecular patterns, which include liposomes, lipopolysaccharide, molecular cages for antigens, components of bacterial cell walls, and endocytosed nucleic acids such as RNA, double-stranded RNA, single-stranded DNA, and unmethylated CpG dinucleotide-containing DNA. Because immune systems have evolved to recognize these specific antigenic moieties, the presence of an adjuvant in conjunction with the vaccine can greatly increase the innate immune response to the antigen by augmenting the activities of dendritic cells, lymphocytes, and macrophages by mimicking a natural infection.
== Cause == DKA most frequently occurs in those who know that they have diabetes, but it may also be the first presentation in someone who has not previously been known to be diabetic. There is often a particular underlying problem that has led to the DKA episode; this may be intercurrent illness (pneumonia, influenza, gastroenteritis, a urinary tract infection), pregnancy, inadequate insulin administration (e.g. defective insulin pen device), myocardial infarction (heart attack), stroke or the use of cocaine. Young people with recurrent episodes of DKA may have an underlying eating disorder, or may be using insufficient insulin for fear that it will cause weight gain. Diabetic ketoacidosis may occur in those previously known to have diabetes mellitus type 2 or in those who on further investigations turn out to have features of type 2 diabetes (e.g. obesity, strong family history); this is more common in African, African-American and Hispanic people. Their condition is then labeled "ketosis-prone type 2 diabetes". Drugs in the gliflozin class (SGLT2 inhibitors), which are generally used for type 2 diabetes, have been associated with cases of diabetic ketoacidosis where the blood sugars may not be significantly elevated ("euglycemic DKA"). While this is a relatively uncommon adverse event, it is thought to be more common if someone receiving an SGLT2 inhibitor who is also receiving insulin has reduced or missed insulin doses.

=== Aplastic anemia === The most serious side effect of chloramphenicol treatment is aplastic anaemia ('AA'). This effect is rare but sometimes fatal. The risk of AA is high enough that alternatives should be strongly considered. Treatments are available but expensive. No way exists to predict who may or may not suffer this side effect. The effect usually occurs weeks or months after treatment has been stopped, and a genetic predisposition may be involved. It is not known whether monitoring the blood counts of patients can prevent the development of aplastic anaemia, but patients are recommended to have a baseline blood count with a repeat blood count every few days while on treatment. Chloramphenicol should be discontinued if the complete blood count drops. The highest risk is with oral chloramphenicol (affecting 1 in 24,000–40,000) and the lowest risk occurs with eye drops (affecting less than one in 224,716 prescriptions).

== Etymology == The name probably comes from a confusion between the Ricinus plant that produces it and another plant, the Vitex agnus-castus. An alternative etymology, though, suggests that it was used as a replacement for castoreum.
=== Paleobiology === Fungi are composed of soft tissues, making fossilization difficult and the discovery of fungal fossils rare. However, some exquisitely preserved specimens have been discovered in the middle Eocene Princeton Chert of British Columbia. These ectomycorrhizal fossils show clear evidence of a Hartig net, mantle and hyphae, demonstrating well-established EcM associations at least 50 million years ago. The fossil record shows that the more common arbuscular mycorrhizas formed long before other types of fungal-plant symbioses. Ectomycorrhizas may have evolved with the diversification of plants and the evolution of conifers and angiosperms. Arbuscular mycorrhizas may thus have been a driving force in the plant colonization of land, while ectomycorrhizas may have arisen either in response to further speciation as the Earth's climate became more seasonal and arid, or perhaps simply in response to nutritionally deficient habitats.
On 27 July, an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon killed four members of different militant groups. A rocket strike hit the Druze town of Majdal Shams in the northern Golan Heights, killing 12 children and injuring dozens more. In retaliation, the IDF bombed villages and towns in south and east Lebanon the following day. On 29 July, two were killed in an Israeli strike in Lebanon. The next day, an Israeli airstrike struck Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon, and one Israeli civilian was killed in a rocket strike from Lebanon to northern Israel. Hezbollah said it fired at Israeli warplanes which entered Lebanese airspace. The IDF said the airstrike targeted senior commander of Hezbollah Fuad Shukr for his involvement in the Majdal Shams attack, and Hezbollah later confirmed his death. Four civilians were also killed, while 80 people were injured. On 17 August, at least 11 including a woman and her two children were killed and four were wounded including two serious injuries in an Israeli strike on a metal warehouse in Nabatieh. The IDF claimed that it struck a Hezbollah "weapons storage facility". The Embassy of the Philippines, Beirut advised its 11,000 citizens in Lebanon to leave the country following the strike. A Hezbollah drone strike injured two soldiers in an IDF site near Misgav Am. One was killed in an Israeli drone strike on a motorcycle in Tyre. The IDF confirmed the death of a commander of the elite Redwan Force.
Conservation biology is the study of the conservation of Earth's biodiversity with the aim of protecting species, their habitats, and ecosystems from excessive rates of extinction and the erosion of biotic interactions. It is concerned with factors that influence the maintenance, loss, and restoration of biodiversity and the science of sustaining evolutionary processes that engender genetic, population, species, and ecosystem diversity. The concern stems from estimates suggesting that up to 50% of all species on the planet will disappear within the next 50 years, which has contributed to poverty, starvation, and will reset the course of evolution on this planet. Conservation biologists research the trends of biodiversity loss, species extinctions, and the negative effect these are having on our capabilities to sustain the well-being of human society. The most important are 241Am and 243Am, which are alpha-emitters and also emit soft, but intense γ-rays; both of them can be obtained in an isotopically pure form. Chemical properties of americium were first studied with 241Am, but later shifted to 243Am, which is almost 20 times less radioactive. The disadvantage of 243Am is production of the short-lived daughter isotope 239Np, which has to be considered in the data analysis. Among 19 isotopes of curium, ranging in mass number from 233 to 251, the most accessible are 242Cm and 244Cm; they are α-emitters, but with much shorter lifetime than the americium isotopes. These isotopes emit almost no γ-radiation, but undergo spontaneous fission with the associated emission of neutrons. More long-lived isotopes of curium (245–248Cm, all α-emitters) are formed as a mixture during neutron irradiation of plutonium or americium. Upon short irradiation, this mixture is dominated by 246Cm, and then 248Cm begins to accumulate. Both of these isotopes, especially 248Cm, have a longer half-life (3.48×105 years) and are much more convenient for carrying out chemical research than 242Cm and 244Cm, but they also have a rather high rate of spontaneous fission. 247Cm has the longest lifetime among isotopes of curium (1.56×107 years), but is not formed in large quantities because of the strong fission induced by thermal neutrons. Seventeen isotopes of berkelium have been identified with mass numbers 233, 234, 236, 238, and 240–252.

The theory further states that removing opiate precursors from a child's diet may allow time for these behaviors to cease, and neurological development in very young children to resume normally. As of 2021, reliable studies have not demonstrated the benefit of gluten-free diets in the treatment of autism. In the subset of people who have gluten sensitivity there is limited evidence that suggests that a gluten-free diet may improve some autistic behaviors.
After Liautaud graduated second to last in his class at Elgin Academy in 1982, his father gave him a choice to either join the Army or start a business. Although his father wanted him to enlist, the younger Liautaud chose the latter, and his father agreed to loan him $25,000 in exchange for a 48% stake in the business. Initially, Liautaud wanted to open a hot dog stand, but after visiting numerous such stands throughout the summer of 1982, he realized the $25,000 would not be enough for such a venture. After a chance encounter at a sandwich shop, he realized that he could open a sandwich shop within his available budget by purchasing premium meats at a neighborhood market and baking his own bread. With the help of his family as tasters, he decided to put four sandwiches on his original menu. Paying $200 a month in rent, Liautaud could afford only used equipment consisting of a refrigerator, a chest freezer, an oven, and a meat slicer. On January 13, 1983, Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches opened in Charleston, Illinois. Due to the poor location of his first store, Liautaud decided to include delivery of his sandwiches to boost sales. He began by bringing samples door-to-door to the dorms of nearby Eastern Illinois University, which he had attended for one semester. By the end of his first year, the restaurant started making a profit. In April 1985, Liautaud bought out his father's interest in the business, becoming the sole owner. In 1986, he opened his second store in Macomb, Illinois, and in 1987, he opened a third in Champaign, Illinois.
=== Nutrition and dietary supplements === Reviews in 2023 and 2020 found only limited or no evidence existed to recommend any specific diet to people with FM. Studies indicate that weight management is helpful for reducing FM impact. Nutrition is related to fibromyalgia in several ways. Some nutritional risk factors for fibromyalgia complications are obesity, nutritional deficiencies, food allergies, and consuming food additives. The consumption of fruits and vegetables, low-processed foods, high-quality proteins, and healthy fats may have some benefits. Low-quality evidence found some benefits of a vegetarian or vegan diet. Although dietary supplements have been widely investigated concerning fibromyalgia, most of the evidence, as of 2021, is of poor quality. It is therefore difficult to reach conclusive recommendations. It appears that Q10 coenzyme and vitamin D supplements can reduce pain and improve quality of life for fibromyalgia patients. Q10 coenzyme has beneficial effects on fatigue in fibromyalgia patients, with most studies using doses of 300 mg per day for three months. Q10 coenzyme is hypothesized to improve mitochondrial activity and decrease inflammation. Vitamin D has been shown to improve some fibromyalgia measures, but not others.
is the so-called shoving volume, i.e. it is the characteristic volume of the group of atoms involved in the shoving event by which an atom/molecule escapes from the cage of nearest-neighbours, typically on the order of the volume occupied by few atoms. Furthermore,
At the end of his assignment, he gave the Supreme Tribunal a list of 97 Lodges and urged the Vatican to prosecute them to the greatest extent. In 1761, Ferdinand VI was convinced by the Grand Inquisitor to make Freemasonry illegal in any Spanish territory, subject to the death penalty.

It is a complex of a three-amino-acid peptide, glycine, histidine and lysine, bound to a single copper(II) ion. The metal is held mainly by the histidine side chain and the peptide backbone. Most commercial material is supplied as an acetate salt rather than as the free complex.
The free peptide was reported in 1973 by Loren Pickart, who isolated it from human plasma. Its copper-binding behaviour was characterised over the following years. The metal-bound form has been the subject of most later research.
Yes. Copper tripeptide-1 is the name used in cosmetic ingredient labelling, while GHK-Cu is the shorthand found in the scientific literature. Both refer to the same peptide-copper complex, and the two terms are interchangeable in most technical documents.
Dry powder is best kept cold, dark and sealed, typically at -20 °C for long-term storage or 2 to 8 °C for material in regular use. Vials should be warmed to room temperature before opening to prevent moisture condensing on the contents. Aqueous stock solutions degrade faster and are usually prepared fresh.
